Baby NamingsMazel Tov on welcoming a new baby (newborn or adopted) into your life/lives!
Jewish naming ceremonies are designed to welcome a new baby into your lives in warm and meaningful ways derived not only from Jewish tradition, but also within a personalized family context. Baby namings are often sentimental. Not only is it the official welcome of the baby into Jewish life, but the Hebrew name chosen is often after a relative who has died. For a baby naming, I meet with the family and help them select a Hebrew name, prepare a service and naming certificate, and conduct the naming ceremony during which I bless the baby for a life filled with a sense of God, Torah and good deeds. |

BoysFor a newborn baby boy, a bris is usually done on the 8th day of life and it is the ritual circumcision performed by a mohel. The service includes the naming, which is often done by a rabbi, but if the circumcision itself has been performed by the doctor in the hospital, then the naming is done separately.

GirlsThe naming ceremonies for girls are identical to those for boys with the exclusion of circumcision, of course.
