It is customary to observe the anniversary of the death of a loved one every year by lighting a Yahrzeit candle which burns for 24 hours. The Yahrzeit date is traditionally calculated according to the Hebrew calendar and is the anniversary of death, not the burial. The candle is lit every year at sundown on the eve of the Yahrzeit.
